Write a brief background of your character (you can also export your background story via the User Control Panel): ((If you are reinstating with the same character, you can skip this part.))
1993, yet another year of the Rooster, as the zodiac willed it. A conservative country trying to escape decades of conflict, both with itself and the world outside; trying to bring a drop of modernity into the life of its denizens. Though, with this, the divide between the rich and the poor only grew. Some would say it had simply become more evident, or that it had remained the same - only changing the titles. No more extortioning Lords, just CEOs that made sure all of the wheat belonged to them all the same. No more corrupt councils, nor elitist royalty - just a few 'parties' that 'definitely' looked for the interests of their people, and a King relegated to save face. No more bandits or revolutionaires, just Gokudo - despectively known as Yakuza, skin covered in ink to illustrate their loyalties, even with the 'crackdowns' performed over the last decade. All in all, misery found its way into the lives of many, be it one way or the other. But at its core, everyone craved the same thing: what it always had been about. The one resource that dictated whether Man would Eat or not, whether they were at the top or the bottom of the chain; in a world which easily confuses value and worth, it is no longer the soul that dictates one's brightness.
Just then, in Yokohama, the spirits allowed yet another of these souls to be enslaved by the system. Born into the family of fishermen, a young Fujiwara was no stranger to the horrors of poverty and its consequences. His first years were marked by hunger. It mattered little, his proficiency in studies, for one, once born with the mark of peasant, was destined to die with it. Or, at least, oh so many thought. Though, even in this hole, a community of alikes was formed - children and teenagers in the same situation, watching and learning from the world in front of them. And from their necessities grew their desires. Unfortunately for Fujiwara and his peers, though, their necessities were far more dire than others'. And thus, the descent into vice and crime was not only expected, but almost anticipated.
It was, in a way, a coping mechanism. Some would call it inevitable: all of the involved saw it as something necessary. A way to alter the bad hand they'd been given - to cheat the game of cards that had brought them down to where they were. Fujiwara Kazuki was no stranger to any of these games played. His teenage rebelliousness, after all, a fuel to a growing fire; but part of him never strayed from the discipline he knew he had to maintain. Thus, creating somewhat of a dual side to his soul, and constantly fighting for a balance he never quite achieved. Even if to justify some things from one side, he would work on the other - eventually having him land, to everyone's surprise, in the best University of Japan for his Business studies. The four years flew faster than he'd expected, and then there he was. A fraction of the man he wished to be.
The following years continued what the previous had started. Too tied in with his 'negative' acquaintances to break free and out - nor with real desire to, he indulged in what he then thought to be the way forward. As more and more of his life fell onto his hands, he noticed that he, could, too, control his surroundings - mostly, for his own benefit. With the growth of his wallet, so grew his power within the organisations he was part of. But he did everything in his reach to never be the big fish, never be the limelight. He came to be owner of his very own restaurant, all whilst juggling his many other to-dos, and even a long-standing office job in a public institution. But then everything plateau'd. And he soon realised him and his associates had reached a peak, and now came the downfall.
Starting in 2021, it was all downswing. Ties broken, people lost, over a mistake that wasn't even his own. Almost in a creeping manner, the memories of his struggles in his earlier years came back - the illness of his mother and the descent into alcoholism of his father. The empty fridge, the yells and the feeling of despair. The shack he was forced to call home, having to fight for a bag of rice and some bread. And he knew it was time to leave, before any and all chances slipped out of his hand. Knowing one of his earlier acquaintances in life had been pretending to lead a less vicious, favourable lifestyle in the U.S., he embarked a plane and soared over the very ocean he had to brave more than one storm in, in a fishing boat.
Attaining citizenship and permanent residence in this new place was no easy feat, and only then was Fujiwara witness to the reality of the American dream. Vices in excess - not too dissimilar to what he already knew, but worse. His heart shrunk, and his mind started questioning everything he'd done up to that point. He sheltered his mind in his own experience, thinking that perhaps it was time to see - not too differently to his prior years - what he could do to steer his life. Being a pilot was what he thought would be his saving grace; it was to be only a means to an end for him, but somewhere through this process, he discovered that perhaps change was possible. Perhaps not everything had to be out of greed, perhaps there were things to enjoy in his otherwise grey fate. Perhaps he could begin to find his place in a better world than the one he was clawing away from. A clean record, a new place. Different faces, different tastes. And only a past to hide and forget.
